Discover Marugame Monzo: A Udon Haven in Little Tokyo, Downtown LA

Nestled in the heart of Little Tokyo, Downtown Los Angeles, Marugame Monzo offers an authentic and unforgettable udon dining experience. This popular eatery is celebrated for its hand-pulled udon noodles, expertly crafted and cooked to perfection right in front of the diners.

It's such a treat to eat authentic Sanuki udon.

My go-to udon meal kit is from CJ - Udon Noodle Soup with Tempura from Costco. 

It's easy to make and the noodles are chewy; however, nothing can beat the original Marugame udon! 

The restaurant's popularity means it can get quite busy, so be prepared for a potential wait during peak hours. However, the delicious food and unique experience are well worth it.

Marugame Monzo's atmosphere exudes a cozy and welcoming vibe, making it an ideal spot for both casual meals and special occasions. The open kitchen layout allows guests to watch skilled chefs prepare their meals, adding an engaging and interactive element to the dining experience.

Signature Dishes

The star of the menu is undoubtedly the udon, which is available in a variety of styles and broths. But Marugame Monzo has so many amazing dishes - from appetizers to specialty drinks, each menu is worth trying. 

I have tried the Uni Cream Udon and Miso Carbonara Udon, and they are so creamy and decadent. 

Uni Cream Udon

A rich and creamy delight featuring fresh sea urchin, this dish combines the savory flavor of uni with the chewy texture of udon.

The Miso Carbonara features thick, chewy udon noodles coated in a rich, creamy sauce made from a blend of miso and traditional carbonara ingredients like egg yolks and cheese.

The miso imparts a subtle umami depth, balancing the saltiness of the cheese and the richness of the egg yolk, creating a harmonious and satisfying flavor profile.

Karaage is one of my favorite Japanese dishes. Marugame Monzo's Karaage comes with curry salt and mayo sauce, making this simple deep-fried chicken irresistible.
