I finally splurged! I’ve been eyeing Helen Kaminski raffia hats for quite some time now – they make a great fashion statement while serving the functional purpose of sun protection. Still, I was hesitant to drop over $200 for a raffia hat. I tried on other hats that looked similar in style; however, they just didn’t have the same craftmanship Helen Kaminski hats had.
There are oh-so-many raffia hats by Helen Kaminski, but I was set on getting the Newport, a beautifully structured hat with an Italian grosgrain ribbon around it.
What I really love about these types of hats is that they provide excellent sun protection. Helen Kaminski hats provide UPF 50+ sun protection, which is great for sizzling summer days or beach vacations.
The hat comes in a sturdy cardboard hat box for proper storage.
There is a hand-rolled raffia string tie in case you have to adjust the circumference (size) for a better fit.
And the hat comes with a neoprene inner band strip to give your forehead some cushion against friction. I thought the neoprene band was a thoughtful touch because it should also absorb sweat or protect the hat from discoloring.
You can find a raffia seed pin on the side of the ribbon that is the signature of Helen Kaminski hats.
There are different ribbon and hat colors to choose from, depending on your style and preference. The hat is also available in M and L to accommodate most head sizes. The Medium was slightly roomy on my head, but I was able to adjust it with the string tie. With the tie, you can reduce the size up to 1-2cm.
For your information, the Medium hat measures 57.5cm and the Large 59.5cm.
I honestly think Helen Kaminski hats are so worth the extra few bucks. Their solid construction and attention to detail are simply superior to other hats I’ve considered.
