Happy Friday, everyone!

I’m so excited to share with you my newly furnished breakfast nook.

We rarely use our dining room since we’re usually not the ones who are hosting a dinner. Even on Thanksgiving, we go to our parents’ place and all our relatives gather there. I converted our formal dining room into my home office, so I wanted to make the breakfast area as accommodating as possible if we were to host a small get-together.

Here’s my kitchen/breakfast nook layout.

For a busy and small “family” of two, the island bar seating gets so many uses.

My husband and I usually eat a quick breakfast here because it’s so close to the kitchen. Well, it is in the kitchen, haha.

When we’re eating home-cooked meals or on just about any other occasion that doesn’t require us to eat quickly and head out, we fully utilize our breakfast nook.

Or I call it, our dining area.

The round dining table from Restoration Hardware was a gift from my parents when we bought this house. The size was perfect, and I love the dark wood finish. It really grounds the space and looks amazing against our light porcelain tile floor.

The table sits up to 8 people! Sure, it’s not as accommodating as the extendable tables with leaves that sit over 12 people, but it is more than enough for our needs.

The dining chairs are from Pottery Barn, and they are called the Calais.

There were so many fabric options to choose from, but I went with the quick-ship performance fabric.

For upholstered furniture, I always need to think about practicality and durability along with design aesthetics. The sales lady who helped me pick out the chair assured me that the performance fabric excels at withstanding dirt, liquid, or general wear and tear.

You never know what’s going to happen with a few glasses of wine, so I played it safe.

These chairs are so comfortable. The back support is the perfect angle – not too straight or too laid back. And the taller frame is ideal for taller people and staying comfortable through long conversations over dinner.

I sit on this chair while checking my social media, emails, and even online shopping.

It took me forever to decide on the pendant lighting for our dining room. I fell in love with the Turbo Pendant from Gubi when I first saw it at a restaurant in LA.

The intricate design that is reminiscent of Japanese rice paper shades was just mesmerizing.

The pendant is so pretty when lit. The light diffuses through, and we are extremely happy with it.

It’s been a few months since we started using the breakfast nook exclusively as our dining area, and it’s actually better for our lifestyle. Even when the guests come, the host and hostess get to be a part of the conversation during the preparation. I lay out some appetizers and drinks on the island, and people freely gather around and nibble before dinner. Everyone feels included, and with 3 additional seating by the island, entertaining didn’t feel overwhelming or too crowded.

I hope you enjoyed the tour of our dining area. Please share your thoughts below!
