Voodoo Doughnut - Arguably the Best Donut in LA

I know a lot of donut shops claim that they're the best in town, but Voodoo Doughnut is something else. It really is the best, and I drive to Hollywood and pay for parking at Universal just to get these donuts.

Voodoo Doughnut was founded in 2000 in the Old Town Chinatown neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. Since then, Voodoo Doughnut has expanded its presence and opened locations in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Oregon, Washington, Tennessee, and Texas. I feel like the CityWalk location is particularly well-known due to its proximity to Universal Studios.

It is located in the Universal CityWalk Hollywood at 100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City, CA 91608, and you don't need a ticket to get in. Voodoo Doughnut is known for its unusually shaped doughnuts and its iconic decor that has been compared to "goth Barbie's living room".

If you purchase three or more doughnuts, you get this pink box, which has become an icon on its own. The place gets crowded on weekends, so I suggest dropping by the shop before lunch on weekdays. You can get fresh doughnuts without any wait time.

The doughnuts have the best fillings and toppings. You can browse the list of doughnuts outside of the shop. When I first visited the shop, I asked for recommendations, and the friendly staff was more than happy to help me choose.

The Portland Cream is arguably Voodoo Doughnut's best, especially popular among cream-filled doughnut lovers. It is filled with Bavarian cream and is topped with rich chocolate and decorated with a set of eyes. It is not as unique looking as other Voodoo Doughnut offerings, but it is classic. It is my favorite, and I get it every time I go.

The menu inside has the pink gothic coffin decor, and you can choose your doughnut as you wait in line. It gets so busy on the weekend!

There are Voodoo Doughnut merch for sale, but if you're visiting and your luggage is filling up, you don't need to get the merch here. These are available online, and you can purchase them directly from Voodoo Doughnut's website.

This doughnut hole mug makes a good souvenir. The mug has a "the magic is in the hole" slogan, which is the catchphrase.

As you get closer to the checkout stand, you can feast your eyes with the array of doughnuts!

If you still haven't made up your mind about what you're getting, you can decide here. The carrousel spins around, and the overloaded toppings make every doughnut so unique and fun.

The "Dirt" is another one of my favorites.

The Double Chocolate and Maple Cake are also good, but if you're trying Voodoo Doughnut for the first time, I suggest you go with more iconic flavors like the Voodoo Doll or Oh Captain, My Captain.

These lanyards might be exclusive to the offline store because I haven't seen them for sale online.

You can't have a complete Voodoo Doughnut experience without coffee. It also has a good selection of coffees like nitro cold brew, latte, cappuccino, or caramel macchiato.

Voodoo Doughnut also sells the Magic Roast, its whole-bean coffee.

Sourced from East Africa, Brazil, and Columbia, the Magic Roast is a blend that offers chocolate and caramel sweetness layered with fruit notes and crisp acidity.

The 12oz bag retails for $20.

Although these doughnuts don't have holes, they offer the perfect Voodoo Doughnut experience. So decadent and irresistibly addictive! I resist the urge to buy them in a dozen every time I go there, haha.

The Oreo toppings are fresh and crunchy, and you can tell that these aren't stale.

Hands down, Voodoo Doughnut is the best donut shop and worth the drive and parking. If you're planning on going to Universal Studios, don't get doughnuts inside. Get your donut fix at Voodoo Doughnut.
