Lululemon Align vs Aritzia Butter

For Whom/What:

everyday leggings for lounging, errands, light workouts, and travel

Budget:

$$–$$$

Extra Details:

Everyone calls both of these “buttery soft,” but they feel very different in real life. Align has the cult following and premium price, while Aritzia Butter is more affordable and honestly looks very similar online. I want the unfiltered truth — which one actually holds up after weeks or months of wear? Which one pills faster? Which one still looks good after washing? And most importantly, which one do you keep reaching for without thinking? I’m less interested in first impressions and more interested in which one wins long-term.

I’ve owned both, and I keep reaching for my Lululemon Aligns way more — they just hit differently.

The Aritzia Butter leggings are really nice at first touch. Super soft, slightly thicker, and they feel a bit more “held together” when you first put them on. I actually liked them for casual days when I wanted something a little more structured and less delicate. But over time, I noticed they don’t have that same barely-there feel, and they can start to feel a little warm or slightly restrictive if you’re wearing them all day.

The Aligns, though… that’s my weakness. They’re insanely soft in a way that almost disappears on your body — like you forget you’re wearing anything. The stretch is more forgiving, especially on bloated days or when you’re constantly moving around (mom life, errands, etc.). I also feel like they drape better and look more flattering without trying too hard. They’re not compressive, but somehow still make everything look smooth.

Yes, the downside is they’re more delicate — you do have to baby them a bit. But for me, the comfort trade-off is 100% worth it. If I’m choosing what I actually want to wear all day, it’s Align every time.

I’ve owned both and this is one of those cases where they feel similar at first… and then totally separate over time. Align is still unmatched in pure comfort — it’s that super thin, “naked” feel where you genuinely forget you’re wearing leggings. But it’s also kind of high-maintenance. If you wear them for real-life stuff (walking a lot, errands, friction), they will start to pill and lose that pristine look unless you baby them a bit. I treat mine more like a lounge/travel legging now and that’s where it shines.

Aritzia Butter is less magical at first touch, but way more practical. The fabric is thicker, slightly more compressive, and just holds up better with constant wear and washing. It doesn’t give that same second-skin feeling, but it keeps its shape longer and doesn’t stress you out.
