A UV Umbrella.

A few years ago, I stopped thinking of umbrellas as "rain gear" and started thinking of them as everyday comfort items. Living somewhere sunny, I actually use a UV umbrella far more often than I use one for rain.

I carry Dubleve's Toile De Jouy UV Umbrella almost everywhere now. What I love is that it doesn't feel like a utilitarian item that got tossed into my bag as an afterthought. The Toile de Jouy print makes it feel elegant and intentional (reminds me of a delicate and feminine Dior dress), while the UV protection makes a noticeable difference on hot, bright days. Waiting for valet, walking through parking lots, outdoor shopping, amusement parks with the kids, weekend farmers markets—it's one of those items I reach for constantly.

The biggest surprise is how much it improves comfort rather than appearance. You don't realize how draining direct sun can be until you spend a summer carrying a good UV umbrella. I find myself arriving places less overheated, less squinty, and generally in a better mood.

It's not a glamorous answer, but if we're talking about small carry items that genuinely improved my day-to-day life, my Dubleve UV umbrella has earned a permanent spot in my bag. It's one of those purchases that quietly makes every outing a little more pleasant.

One small luxury I never would’ve cared about in my 20s but now genuinely appreciate is a high-end massage chair. I ended up buying the Human Touch Super Novo Massage Chair, and it’s become one of those things that quietly improves my everyday life in a way I didn’t expect.

In my 20s I would’ve thought a massage chair was the most unnecessary purchase imaginable — something you only see in airports or weird mall kiosks. But now that work, parenting, and daily stress pile up, having something that helps you physically decompress at home feels incredibly valuable. The Super Novo does full-body 3D massage with heated rollers and even has programs designed specifically for stress relief and sleep. I’ll sit in it for 15 minutes in the evening and it honestly feels like a reset button for the day.

It’s definitely not a small purchase and honestly over your budget, but it’s the kind of luxury that makes sense as priorities shift. Instead of spending money on things you use once in a while, it becomes about investing in something that improves how you feel every single day. I didn’t understand that mindset in my 20s — but now I absolutely do.
