I've been trying to clean pink mildew that shows up within days on my shower tile grout. It forms in hard-to-reach areas as well, so scrubbing it clean has been a challenge. Can you recommend a good scrubbing brush and heavy-duty bathroom cleaner that doesn't contain bleach?
OXO makes great quality products that are easy to use and durable. All of my experiences with OXO have been nothing short of perfection thus far, and the Grout Brush is another winner.
Our mudroom tile gets so much traffic, and even with a runner, the floor mysteriously gets dirty super fast. I bought the Grout Brush thinking that it would be just another heavy-duty cleaning brush. It is hands down the best scrubbing brush I’ve used, and it excels at not only cleaning the grout lines but also narrow crannies – baseboard corners and windowsills.
The brush comes in only 1 color, as far as I know – black rubber handle, white body, and white+red bristles. The typical OXO color. For a grout brush, it is on the larger side; however, it actually works out better for me because it provides a more secure and comfortable grip, and the brush is narrow enough to reach the narrow areas.
The bristles are very durable. They don’t wear out as easily and quickly as other heavy-duty brushes. And I’m tough on them.
The non-slip handle is cushioned, providing a soft grip. It doesn’t slip even when my hands are wet.
I use the brush to scrub out soap scum stuck on grouts and shower fixtures. I have chrome finish shower fixtures, and they show mineral build-up and soap scums within days of regular shower use. The brush gets everything cleaned and leaves the fixture sparkling – just the way I like!
Also, for the bathroom cleaner, I use Astonish's Bathroom Cleaner.
It's tough on soap scum, watermarks, and limescale, so it's perfect for tackling pink mildew. I spray this on liberally, wait a few minutes (10-15 min, but longer if your stains are tougher), and scrub the surface using OXO's Grout Brush.
No one likes cleaning bathroom tiles, and grout cleaning poses the greatest challenge. It is labor-intensive as each grout between two tiles needs to be scrubbed rigorously.
I’ve been using old toothbrushes, but this grout brush is sooooo much better! The bristles are so much denser and stronger than the toothbrush. Your teeth would be bleeding if you were to brush your teeth with the grout brush, and that’s the kind of brush you’d want to clean the nasty grouts. In other words, regular toothbrushes are too soft to scrub out the gunk.
The brush is narrow and angled so it can concentrate on the grout line. With a bit of bathroom cleaner and some scrubbing, the grout was looking like new. All that dark or pink moldy spots that the toothbrushes failed to clean didn’t stand a chance against the OXO Grout Brush.
The handle, like all OXO Good Grips products, features a non-slip soft grip. It doesn’t slip even when my hands are wet (which is most of the time), and my hand doesn’t tire easily. Try holding a toothbrush and scrubbing each grout line with wet hands.
Another cool feature of the Grout Brush is its curved neck. The brush can be hung on a bucket for air-drying it and storage. The brush doesn’t get in contact with the floor or other surfaces, so it stays hygienic and clean.
I use the brush mainly in the shower to get soap scums and mildew out, but it is intended for all grouts and narrow areas that are difficult to reach. Sorry for the beat-up brush head - my puppy chewed it off, ha! Still, the brush works just fine!
Grout cleaning is still not the most pleasant chore (in fact, I still dread it!), but I manage it a lot more efficiently and faster.
