Nissin Ramen Instant Noodles – Black Garlic Oil Tonkotsu Pork

I love Japanese ramen, but enjoying a bowl of warm noodles as much as I’d like is challenging since my favorite ramen restaurant is 40 miles away.

I’ve tried bunch of instant Tonkotsu noodles, but they sadly fell short of my expectations.

If you’re craving authentic-tasting Tonkotsu ramen, this is an amazing contender.

The broth is rich and has great pork flavor.

It is slightly on the saltier end, but it can be remedied if I add more water.

Looking at the nutritional chart, it has a considerable amount of sodium, but hey, it’s an instant ramen.

The black garlic oil that you add right before serving makes a huge difference.

It keeps the oily pork flavor in check, and the garlic aroma is what makes the noodles so flavorful.

I add a few slices of char siu (Japanese barbecued pork) and a soft-boiled egg and sliced green onions to make it more authentic.

The ramen restaurants always charge extra for a slice of char siu (which shouldn’t be that expensive!), so it’s a much cheaper alternative to eating out.

I added 3 slices, and it becomes a very filling meal with protein.

If you're craving some authentic Japanese udon, give Hakoya's Big Pouch Udon a try. It's available to order from an Asian grocery delivery app Weee!, and I have been ordering this several times now. You can also get this at other offline Asian grocery stores, as well.

The udon noodles taste firm and squiggly, and the broth is PERFECTION. It tastes so authentic, and for the price (about $10 for 2 servings), I'd give this 10/10.

The Big Pouch Udon contains katsuo bushi, 2 big pouches, udon noodles, and sliced green onion.

The "big pouch" refers to a stuffed fried tofu pouch. It's very filling and so delicious.
