I'm craving some Tteokbokki, but the nearest K-town is so far away. There are so many instant Tteokbokki sauces online, and I have no idea which one to buy. What's your go-to Tteokbokki sauce, or do you just make it at home?
The Seokgwandong Topokki kit is really tasty and authentic!
Personally, this tastes better than many Teokbokki places in my local Korean restaurants, and it's much cheaper!
I really like wheat rice cake. I prefer this to regular rice cake which tends to be chewier because wheat rice cakes absorb more sauce and taste juicier and softer. Extra points to this Tteokbokki kit for including wheat rice cake. Make sure to thaw the rice cake in a bowl of cold water for 30 minutes or so.
The only regret I have with this is that it contains little fish cake, but it can easily be remedied by adding some more. There are many fish cake options in Korean grocery stores.
I add some green onions as a garnish, and I get a filling and satisfying bowl of Tteokbokki.
It's made by CJ, a well-known South Korean food manufacturer that specializes in various instant food and frozen meal kits.
If you're looking for an online retailer, you can either purchase it from Amazon (although the price and availability may vary depending on the sellers) or from Weee!, an Asian grocery delivery app we have in SoCal.
You get 3 generous servings of Tteokbokki with this sauce packet. I usually make 1-2 servings each time I make Tteokbokki, and the sauce gives me 2-3 batches.
The cooking instructions are written in Korean, English, and Japanese.
The sauce tastes very authentic. Highly recommend it.
I like to buy meal prep kits for Tteokbokki because you don't have to buy any other ingredients, and they last much longer than fresh rice cakes.
Lately, I'm obsessed with Mimine Original Tteokbokki Soup - it's spicy but absolutely delicious. I make this after a stressful day at work as a cheat meal, and it's the best comfort food if you like spicy food.
All the ingredients are included - rice cake, precut fish cake, and sauce. You can spruce things up by adding green onion, noodles, or boiled eggs. I add eggs all the time for added protein. The boiled eggs are so yummy and go well with Tteokbokki.
This Tteokbokki kit has runnier sauce than regular Tteokbokki, but it's not bland in any means or lacking in flavor.
