Accessories for Vermicular's Musui Kamado - Pot Holders and Magnetic Trivet

When I was purchasing the Musui Kamado from Vermicular, I did not buy its accessories - Pot Holders and Magnetic Trivet. I have several pairs of oven mitts and cork trivets I bought from Ikea when I was in college (years ago!), so I thought why make an unnecessary purchase? I wrote a separate post on the Musui Kamado here, so feel free to check it out.

Despite my initial thought, it turned out that my oven mitts were too bulky. Because the lid is also cast iron, everything gets super hot when heated, so I ended up getting the accessories as well - both pot holders and magnetic trivets.

I believe there are more colors available on Vermicular Japan or other third-party sellers. I went ahead and ordered whatever Vermicular USA offered because I actually liked the colors offered there. And it was free shipping and probably didn’t require a long shipping time. The pot holders are available in 2 colors, Graphite and Wheat. They are both beautiful and neutral colors, meant to complement Vermicular’s Musui. I honestly think either color looks nice on any Musui, and therefore I ended up getting both colors.

A pair of pot holders retails for $40, which is definitely expensive as pot holders; however, I could tell that they are very solidly made when I received them in person. These pot holders are made of 100% organic cotton canvas, and they are so thick and plush. Because cast iron cookware, including the Musui, gets incredibly hot, it is imperative that the pot holders have sufficient padding and thickness. Vermicular’s pot holders are specifically designed to fit the Musui’s cast iron double handles, ensuring safe handling and transport of the Musui.

Both colors are so beautiful, and the stitchings are top-notch.

The outer canvas is made of 100% organic cotton, but the insulation is made of 100% polyester.

They are made in Japan.

The holders have inner loops to hang them.

I do not have many backsplash areas in the kitchen but ample drawers, so I stash them in one of the kitchen drawers near the stove. They are so handy and used daily.

The Magnetic Trivet was easier to decide because the logo plate color matches your Musui.

There are 2 “main” colors of the trivet - Maple and Black Walnut. And each trivet has 3 different logo plate colors to choose from - Matte Black, Charcoal, and Sea Salt. The logo plate colors match the Musui colors. I got the Black Walnut trivet with a Matte Black logo plate, and I think it looks very sophisticated and beautiful.

Those who own Staub cast iron cookware might be familiar with magnetic trivets like this one because Staub makes very similar magnetic trivets.

Essentially, these trivets have magnets inside the wood (usually at the core) to keep the cast iron pot securely attached. I highly, highly suggest getting a magnetic trivet if you have heavy, large-capacity cast iron cookware because you want to rest the pot/pan securely. The trivet’s magnet is very strong, and my Musui attaches to it easily. Once it is attached, the Musui clings tightly and doesn’t slide, serving meals easily and safely. Because cast iron pots keep food warm longer, I frequently serve the meals straight from the Musui, and this magnetic trivet helps with the safe handling of the food and keeps the dining table or my quartz countertop protected from heat damage.

The matte black logo plate is so chic and elegant. I also considered getting a Staub magnetic trivet because I own several Staub pots as well. I, however, prefer the matte maple grain of Vermicular, and the logo plate makes it look tidier and more sophisticated. Staub magnetic trivet is slightly shinier and lighter than Vermicular’s Maple wood trivet. All my cast iron pots (Staub, Le Creuset, and Vermicular’s Musui, which is my latest addition) are neutral colored like black or grey, so all in all, Vermicular’s magnetic trivet looks most fitting.

Because the trivet is made of walnut or maple wood (depending on the color/variety you get), it should never be washed in the dishwasher. In case you spill something, just wipe it clean with a wet cloth or baby wipes. Be sure to clean the spills immediately to prevent the stains from setting in.

I ended up getting the full stack Musui Kamado - the pot (Musui), induction (Kamado), magnetic trivet, and pot holders. It did cost me an arm and leg, but I do not regret the purchase at all. It’s the most used cookware in my kitchen, and everything tastes SO DELICIOUS.
