Shiba Inus are notoriously picky eaters, and my dog is no exception. I’ve had very little luck with most dog foods including premium brands like Orijen. I was getting worried because my dog wasn’t touching her food and has been losing weight. I shared my concern with a sales associate at Petco, and he confidently recommended me CANIDAE’s Ancestral Raw Coated Dog Food. He said raw-coated food is appealing to most picky dogs.

She likes raw steak (or any red meat), so I decided to give the Raw Coated Red Meat a try.

CANIDAE Grain Free Pure Ancestral kibble is coated with freeze-dried raw food to entice picky dogs’ appetites. Out of desperation, I used to feed her kibble coated in Kong peanut butter paste, and the raw coated food is exactly like that. Just healthier and meatier.

There are dog foods that contain freeze-dried raw bits, and my sly dog would always eat the delicious bits and leave the rest behind. Because kibble is coated in raw lamb (for the Red Meat variety), she gets fooled and empties her bowl. Yes, she actually ate the whole serving.

The Red Meat variety is also ideal for dogs who are sensitive to poultry because it is made with 7 meat species (deboned lamb, goat, bison, wild boar, and venison). If your dog is throwing up, itching excessively, or having loose stools, he/she might be allergic to the food. With the Ancestral Raw, I haven’t observed any of that with my dog. Her coat is shiny. She is ever active and playful.

My dog just finished her first 20lb bag, and she is now a normal weight. If your dog is taking all day to eat half a cup, definitely give this food a try.

I opened a new bag today, and my dog came running, begging for more.

No more hand-feeding, peanut butter paste, and steak for us!
