I own Chilewich Dahlia placemats and still love their beautiful colors, ease of care, and the visual interest they add to my dining table. However, the Dahlia placemats come with a flaw (to me, at least). It is essentially a mat with many, many holes for sauces and food to seep through if they were to be spilled. I don’t mind wiping the placemats, but I do want to protect the delicate wood finish from food staining, so the holes were becoming a nuisance.
So I bought the Oval Mini Basketweave placemats (also from Chilewich) to layer under the Dahlia placemats. And they look much better than I initially thought!
The Mini Basketweave comes in many colors and shapes (including round, square, and rectangle), but I wanted a solid color that can bring out the metallic spark of the Dahlia. I chose the Oval placemat in White, and it complements the silvery tone of my Dahlia placemats.
So pretty!
The Dahlia mat looks like a charger underneath a dinner plate and keeps the place setting put together.
And most importantly, the oval basketweave placemat prevents food from seeping through and staining the table. The basketweave mat is woven very tightly and is great at containing liquid. And after a meal, I just wipe the mats clean.
I still haven’t removed the tag yet!
