I’ve been coveting the Icelandic Sheepskin Throw from Design Within Reach (DWR) for quite some time now. Every time I stopped by at their showroom, the sheepskin throws are casually draped around on $10,000 chairs. I finally got the Icelandic Sheepskin Throw for my birthday, and I’m over the moon about it.
The throw instantly adds a plush textural interest to any space or room. I draped this throw over a teal-colored armchair I have, and it is just striking.
According to DWR, the Icelandic Sheepskin Throws are produced by “the largest sheepskin tannery in the world”, and the tannery uses a “42-step tanning method that retains its natural shape and suppleness” like no other.
You can feel the plushness of the long piles of the throw.
The throw is dry clean only, and from time to time, it requires light, sparse brushing to straighten hair.
Although the throw is on the pricier end, I do believe the price is justifiable considering it is 100% natural sheepskin. I got a small one, and it is 3’ long. The large is double the length but has the same width (6’ x 2’).
The sheepskin throws are widely available in the United States now, clearly reflecting their popularity, but I’m so glad I purchased a sheepskin throw from DWR. I’ve read some reviews from other vendors, and they complain about the awful smell that lingers – a storage issue, maybe? I did not experience that at all. The throw smells “clean”, and I haven’t detected any foul or plastic odor.
