Over $200 for a hairbrush?

Yup, that’s right. Mason Pearson’s hairbrushes have jaw-dropping prices, and I was extremely hesitant on purchasing one myself.

It’s been a few months since I bit the bullet and placed an order, and now I’m going around praising this brush wherever I go.

I don’t know how this brush does it, but it makes my hair 10 times softer, shinier, and more manageable.

I bought Mason Pearson’s bestselling brush, “Popular” in Dark Ruby color.

The really cool thing about these brushes is that you can customize the bristles, color and size. The varying colors and sizes are pretty common options that are widely offered; however, I’ve never heard of customizable bristles. You can choose from (1) boar bristle, (2) bristle and nylon, or (3) nylon, depending on your hair type and concerns. The boar bristle brush is best suited for extra fine to fine hair, and the resilient nylon brush is ideal for coarser hair.

If you have shorter hair, you can opt for the smaller varieties like the Junior. But I suggest going with the Popular if you have shorter-length hair or longer. The Popular brush isn’t too cumbersome, and you might have longer hair one day - you never know!

The bristle and nylon brush, as the name suggests, has a mixture of boar bristles and nylon. The brush thoroughly combs through my hair and redistributes my hair’s natural oil evenly from the roots to the ends.

The handle has a Mason Pearson logo, and it hasn’t chipped off or gotten discolored yet. I will have to see how the logo holds over the years since the brush is supposed to last decades, but so far, so good.

Right out of the box, I could feel the fine craftsmanship of the brush.

The brush is housed in a red velvet-like insert, and the box includes a cleaning brush and a care instruction booklet.

The brush comes with a cleaning tool to keep the brush looking pristine and hair-free.

Every now and then, I run the brush with the cleaning tool, and it usually gets all the stuck-on hair or dusts out.

This is the best hairbrush I’ve used, and I enjoy brushing my hair with it daily.
