Commissioning artwork is a meaningful way to create a personalized piece that reflects one's identity, values, and experiences. We've been meaning to add meaningful artwork to our gallery wall, and we found just the right piece.

We first discovered Oh Jeong's works while we were shopping at h'soban, a Korean traditional ceramic store in Los Angeles. The store manager was showcasing some of Oh's works as they highlighted the ethereal Korean Moon Jars with a modern twist. We inquired about commissioning a piece in a larger size, and we ended up placing an order.

An art commission is a custom request made by an individual, organization, or business for an artist to create a unique piece of art tailored to specific requirements or preferences. When commissioning art, the client typically discusses their vision, including the desired subject matter, style, medium, size, and other details with the artist. The process involves collaboration between the client and the artist to ensure the final artwork meets the client's expectations and vision.

Take a look at some of her works below.

When we were commissioning, we could choose from 2 expressions - linear and crushed.

This is linear.

And this is crushed. We found the crushed version to be more intricate and interesting and decided to go with it.

It arrived in a secure box, framed and everything!

Meet the beauty!

The "Moon Jar" by Oh Jeong is a stunning piece that beautifully marries traditional Korean aesthetics with contemporary artistry. Created with a unique mix of acrylic on canvas, crushed mother of pearl, and 24k gold, this painting captures the essence of elegance and serenity.

Signed on the bottom right.

The use of crushed mother of pearl lends a delicate, iridescent texture to the piece, catching the light in a way that feels both ethereal and dynamic, while the incorporation of 24k gold adds a sense of luxury and depth.

The "Moon Jar," a traditional Korean ceramic form symbolizing purity and simplicity, is reimagined through Oh Jeong's modern lens, allowing for a new interpretation that feels timeless yet fresh. The subtle interplay of colors and materials creates a mesmerizing visual experience that invites viewers to pause and reflect, drawing them into the tranquility and richness of the piece.

This artwork is not only a testament to Oh Jeong's skillful technique and creative vision but also a harmonious blend of cultural heritage and contemporary expression—an exquisite addition to any collection.

The Korean Moon Jar, with its timeless beauty and profound symbolism, is not just an art object but a vessel that carries the spirit, memories, and hopes of Korean immigrants, making it a powerful and resonant symbol of cultural identity and heritage. As a symbol of purity, balance, and humility, the Moon Jar resonates deeply with Korean immigrants who often navigate the complexities of balancing their cultural roots with their lives in a new country.

Until next time!
