We love traditional Korean artworks. We try to connect with our heritage and culture as much as possible, and we genuinely believe once more people discover these beautiful works of art, they will also appreciate it as much as we do.

These Korean mother-of-pearl jewelry chests are one of the most cherished possessions. They were a wedding gift from a dear family member, making them extra special and memorable. The jewelry chests are adorned with Jagae, a Korean traditional method of inlaying mother-of-pearl on cabinets, which showcases the gossamer shades of colors.

The taller chest consists of 3 drawers.

Each side of the chest is adorned with Jagae, and the inlaid mother-of-pearl glows at different angles. They are exquisite.

Each drawer has velvet-covered compartments for jewelry, but we use the chests as decorative objects. They can be placed anywhere in the house - a living room, a closet, or even in a dining room, depending on how you want to use them. They instantly accessorize a space and add a touch of oriental charm.

These are petite-sized jewelry chests, but Jagae chests come in so many sizes. A lot of traditional Jagae chests are actually large chests that are meant to store comforters and clothes.

You can see the artworks often feature peacocks or cranes, on a pine tree by the sun and clouds. They symbolize longevity in the East Asian culture. Whenever the artisans crafted the Jagae chest, they wished for a long and healthy life for the recipient by including the 10 symbols of longevity. The tradition stuck and gifting a Jagae chest or a jewelry box has become synonymous with wishing a long life.

Beautifully designed, they are so much more than jewelry storage. We recommend them 100% if you're looking to introduce traditional Korean culture or art.

Until next time,
