I've been searching for a hygienic dish-drying mat that doesn't take up too much space in my open kitchen. I didn't want to go for a full-stack dish rack to keep my kitchen counter as clutter-free as possible. Weeks passed by, and I invested in this dish pad from Dorai. It is made of diatomaceous earth, a naturally occurring mineral made from the fossilized remains of tiny aquatic organisms.
Diatomaceous earth causes moisture to evaporate almost instantaneously as it holds up to 150% of its weight in water and contains millions of pores. This fascinating property of diatomaceous earth has been implemented in various kitchen and bathroom products to keep bacteria and mold at bay. Bath mats that are made of diatomaceous earth are more well-known and popular, for some reason, but I personally wasn't a huge fan of them. I just didn't like the feeling of stepping onto a hard, cold stone after a warm shower! The fast-drying dish mat, though, was exactly what I was looking for.
I ordered the Dish Pad, Dish Pad Rack, and a Sink Caddy from Dorai. Everything came well-packaged, and I was happy with the quality.
The dish pad is available in 2 finishes - slate and sandstone. The sandstone is an off-white or cream color, and it would look beautiful in a farmhouse kitchen or an all-white kitchen. Although I had a white countertop, I was a tad worried about food stains, so I decided to play it safe and go with the slate color.
I'm glad I did. The color's modern and very pretty.
There are some helpful tips to care for the dish pad.

I chose the Dish Pad from Dorai because of two reasons. One, it folds neatly so that it can be stored away when not in use. And two, the stone mat has silicone webbings to prevent the dishes from cracking.

Do you see how it folds neatly?

The full-size pad is quite spacious, which is ideal for me because I hand wash a lot of delicate dishes and air dry them. But when it is not in use, it can be tucked away in a drawer!

The fully extended, large surface area allows me to dry fruits and vegetables, so it's a multi-purpose drying pad.
Another reason for going with Dorai was the silicone webbing on the dish pad. This is the reason I invested in this dish pad instead of cheaper alternatives because I didn't want to damage my delicate dinnerware. Diatomaceous dish pads are stones, after all, so without any protection, cracking is bound to happen.
I have had no issues drying crystal barware, china, and other delicate dinnerware on this dish pad. The silicone webbing protects the dishes from touching the pad.
I also got the Dish Pad Rack, so I can dry plates and specialty items like knives more efficiently.

The Dish Pad Rack can be placed anywhere on top of the Dish Pad, so you can arrange it however you wish to fit your drying needs.

I love how the Dish Pad Rack can be washed in the dishwasher.
The parts come apart like so.
Lastly, I got the Sink Caddy.

I intend to use it in the bathroom because, in my kitchen, I have a built-in soap dispenser.
The elevated feet keep the caddy dry because it shouldn't get soaking wet.
The slate color is so modern and chic.
Water dries quickly, and I love how I don't have to drain a puddle of water. It prevents bacteria growth and takes up so little space. It's an excellent solution to a busy kitchen that does a lot of handwashing.
