Dyson is one of the very few brands I buy without questioning. Its technology is reliable and innovative. My Dyson collection is getting larger every year - cordless stick vacuum, full-size canister vacuum, hair dryer, hair straightener, Airwrap Styler, and several fans -, and I have not yet been disappointed by their design, function, and practicality. They are a tad overpriced for what they really are, but Dyson’s like Apple, in my opinion.
I was hesitant to purchase the Outsize Origin due to its weight. Yes, having a larger dust bin and wider motor head would come in handy undoubtedly; however, I was also worried about the strains it would cause on my wrist. The Outsize Origin is a full pound heavier than its smaller model, v11 Torque Drive, and the heavier weight could get annoying if I were to be vacuuming the whole house (5000 sq ft). But I really liked the larger cleaner head, and it was enough to convince me to choose this over the v11 Torque Drive.
I ordered it online and got it delivered. There was a bit of a waiting period, but nothing major, considering everything’s backed up with limited staffing. There are some exclusive perks for those who purchase directly from the Dyson website. Dyson automatically registers your products for warranty upon purchase if you have an account with them. That means you don’t have to separately activate your warranty.
Also, Dyson gives you a free tool kit (offerings vary, and you can choose 1 kit among them) to tackle various vacuuming tasks.
The kit I chose contained “Carbon Fibre Soft Dusting Brush”, “Mattress Tool” and “Stubborn Dirt Brush”. Admittedly, I chose this kit so I could get the mattress tool. I’ve always struggled to vacuum my mattress thoroughly since I couldn’t wash it, lol. The tool’s flat surface sweeps allergens and dirt that’s sunk deep inside the mattress - awesome.
The “Carbon Fibre Soft Dusting Brush” has also proven to be extremely useful and functional. This tool basically replaces dusting on delicate areas and window treatments.
I’ve been using this tool to clean my porcelain table lamp bases, silk drapes, plantation shutters, and resin table tops. It will be used to clean pretty much any delicate surface, as the carbon fiber tip prevents the tool from scratching the surface while sucking in all the dust! Brilliant!
I have not yet used the “Stubborn Dirt Brush”, but I’m sure I’ll use it to clean my keyboards. I neglect my tech stuff way too much, so I should really remember to clean them tonight, ha.
Okay. I digressed a little, so back to the v11 Outsize Origin.
The v11 Outsize Origin now comes with a removable battery, in case you need to clean for a long time. You can purchase additional batteries, and this way, you don’t have to wait until the vacuum charges, which was considered to be a downside for Dyson cordless vacuums.
The wider cleaner head means fewer sweeps across to get the floors cleaned, and it’s simply awesome. My house doesn’t have any stairs, so my house has a lot of wide and open spaces, and the full-sized cleaner head covers 25% more floor with each sweep. I own a Dyson v8 as well, and the wider cleaner head feels significantly larger and helps me get the job done so much faster.
Another notable difference from the v11 Torque Drive is the larger dust bin. The 0.5-gallon dust bin is 150% bigger than that of the v11 Torque Drive. It holds a LOT! Personally, I don’t really care about the larger dustbin because my house rarely gets excessively dirty, thanks to two of my hardworking Roombas. I rarely filled up the v8 bin, unless I was cleaning up after my husband installed or building something in his garage. Besides, I recommend emptying the bin as soon as possible (even when it isn’t full) because when dust sits in the bin for too long, it starts to stink up the bin. If you’re a pet owner, you know what I mean! The last thing I want is for the vacuum to smell like my dogs.
The LED control panel is located on the back of the appliance, and it’s super easy to change between modes with a touch of a button.
Before the first use, you’ll need to fully charge the vacuum.
The control panel indicates the mode the vacuum is currently on and the battery’s remaining time.
Look how bad-ass this looks. It has a typical yet somewhat controversial Dyson design - some really love it due to its tech-forward and futuristic aspects, but some don’t because they prefer something simpler and neutral-colored. Regardless of how you feel about the design, the vacuum itself looks like a very sleek and modern appliance.
Dyson never disappoints, and the v11 Outsize Origin is another winner.
I ended up purchasing a separate docking station for charging. This freestanding station securely holds the vacuum while charging, and it can hold additional tools. Although it costs extra than using the regular wall-mountable charger, I like this better because I can freely move it around, and I don’t have to drill another hole in my drywall. I will write a separate post about the Dyson v11 Dok, so stay tuned!
