Ah! This jug makes any photo I take Instagram-worthy.
I waited a long time before finally buying this jug because there are some negative reviews (I’ll get to them later). But, I actually needed a thermo jug, so I can keep it by the nightstand and drink water in the middle of the night, and I just couldn’t find any other jug that was prettier than this one.
Some may argue $80 jug is insane, and I agree. It is definitely more than I was willing to spend. But if you think about how much other “tumbler” companies like S’well or Corkcicle charge for their thermo cups, this is not that bad.
The Stelton Vacuum Jug shows up frequently in many influencers’ photos, and I believe it’s more popular in Europe and Asia than in the US.
The jug is the epitome of Danish design, focusing on form, function, and simplicity.
Designed by Erik Magnussen nearly 40 years ago, this cylindrical pitcher is still right on trend and contemporary.
The Stelton Vacuum Jug is offered in various colors, but I didn’t think twice before purchasing the white one because I believe it is classic and timeless. The slightly off-white plastic exterior complements any interior themes or seasonal decor.
Although the exterior is plastic, the inside nests a double-walled glass container to keep the water hot and cold for hours. You can remove the inner container by pushing down the two black buttons on the sides simultaneously. Once the buttons are pressed, you can release the glass container.
The jug contains 2 caps - one for picnic or traveling and the other for at-home use.
The magnetized rocker stopper opens when you tilt the jug, so the water flows steadily. It closes automatically when the jug straightens. The mechanism is brilliant. I can refill water so easily. This mechanism, however, is not suitable for traveling, so Stelton provides an additional cap that is designed for traveling.
It does a decent job of temperature regulation.
My ice-cold drinks stay cold for quite many hours. I have not tested this jug with hot water, yet. I had a pitcher full of cold water when I had some friends come over for like half a day or so, and the water stayed cool the whole time.
Ok. On to the negatives. I ditto some of the negative reviews I read, and the cons may dissuade you from purchasing this.
This is even prettier in person, but I’ll be honest - it’s not the most functional water jug on the market. Yes, it regulates the temperature in a sense that keeps cold water cold and hot water hot. This jug, however, is bulkier than how much water it holds (34 oz capacity) and is very hard to wash.
The jug does not look like a bottle that only holds 34 oz, and it takes up a lot of space in the fridge. If you intend to keep it in the fridge, you’ll need to dedicate a considerable space.
Also, the two buttons on the side are very stiff and hard to press simultaneously. The diameter of the jug and the pressure the buttons require for them to release the inner bottle is considerable. I struggle with this, so I usually ask my husband to do it, ha. It’s not a dealbreaker for me because it’s so pretty, but this con is a definite deterrent for some.
Other than that, a beautiful, beautiful jug!
