I love FLOR rugs!
They are the perfect solution for me with two puppies. Or kids. I don’t have kids yet, but I get a pretty decent idea of what kids do.

Basically, FLOR makes square carpet tiles that allow you to create customized area rugs.
FLOR carpet tiles come in various patterns, textures, and colors (that range from traditional to modern) that can be mixed and matched to create a unique area rug.
Because they come in 19.7” x 19.7” squares and can be cut, you can also customize the rug’s size to fit your area. And here are added bonuses: They are recyclable and washable.
Washable.
YES!
I must say, that was the biggest selling point for me because my pups occasionally have accidents on carpets.
Overall, I really like FLOR rugs and wanted to walk you through the FLOR rug buying experience, so it might be useful to you if you are thinking of purchasing one.
I highly recommend visiting a store if it is nearby because the fabric textures and colors in person are a lot different than online. What you need to keep in mind is that these carpet tiles are not as plush as shag rugs or bath rugs. They have quite short piles and can look quite like commercial-grade carpet tiles you see on a mall floor.

The plushest and softest tile that FLOR offers is the “In the Deep” tile (which comes in various colors), but even that isn’t comparable to the heavenly feeling the shag rugs provide. And depending on the orientation and style of carpet tiles you choose, the area rug can look patchy. I noticed that thinner and plain tiles that don’t have patterns tend to show the border lines more. If going to a store is not an option for you, the website ships out samples ($2 per sample).

I had an accent color in mind that I wanted to incorporate throughout the house: teal, turquoise, or aqua. These colors are all in the greenish-blue family and offer the perfect pop of color that you can use throughout the year except for the colder months. Except for that accent color, I wanted to go all neutral - brown, cream, and occasional gold pieces here and there to add some metallic touch.

Hector, the salesperson at the Dallas FLOR store, was very knowledgeable and helpful with choosing the right shade and texture. I was able to choose the living room rug in a heartbeat because I fell in love with a carpet tile called “Lilting” in Mahogany, but not so much with other areas that needed some floor treatments. So I ordered a handful of samples that I sort of liked at the store to see them with the furniture and under natural light.

This is the pattern I decided to go for the foyer.

I have two lamps on the console table in the same accent color and the new rug ties in nicely with them. So the first thing you see is the pop of the bright color. I ended up choosing one of the pre-designed rugs in the colors and tiles that I chose. That was another interesting thing about FLOR. You get to customize the tiles of the pre-designed area rugs to suit your area better.

The house has an open floor plan, so I get to see the dining room and living room in the foyer. Having an open floor plan is nice because everything feels so open (obviously!) and larger, but maintaining a flow can be a challenge. I had two captain chairs custom-made to keep the teal accent, but I didn’t want it to be the main color. I was hoping to have the most accent color in the foyer, where you spend little time, and gradually decrease it to be more neutral as we approach the living area, where you spend the most time in. So this is the area rug I made for the dining room. Keeping it neutral and light so it wouldn’t be as dark as my wood floors.

And the living room rug is my absolute favorite!

The combination of dark and light brown, beige, and gray goes so well with the cream background.

It is neutral enough to blend into any decor that has cream or brown furniture, yet the texture and pattern are interesting enough not to be boring.

And this is for the dining room.

Can you guess it's a tile rug?

Will I be ordering FLOR again in the future?
Although it might be cheaper to buy less expensive area rugs from Wayfair, I’ll still go with FLOR because it gives me the flexibility to customize the shapes, sizes, and colors that really suit my needs.
Here’s a summary of what I think of FLOR rugs.
Pros: Customizable in size, color, and texture
Washable
Recyclable
Can redesign by rearranging or substituting existing tiles
Replaceable - instead of throwing out the entire rug, you can replace one or two soiled tiles
Cons: Price, depending on which carpet tile you choose
Texture - if you’re looking for a really plush rug that hugs your feet, FLOR is not for you.
Can only be installed on hard surfaces, no carpet
