A Korean artist Huh Myoung Wook's ottchil items are masterpieces and capture the ethereal nature of the Korean traditional lacquering method. I happily own his ottchil flatware and trays, and I always wanted to explore other tableware or home goods from him. During my trip to Korea, I visited Print Bakery, a gallery shop that retails various works of Huh Myoung Wook. Each was nothing short of perfection.
At the entrance of Print Bakery, a life-sized ottchil Astro Boy greeted me. This shiny lacquered-finished figurine is such a showstopper, and it will add a personal touch to any corner of the room.
I was impressed with the quality and craftsmanship!
Print Bakery had an assortment of Huh's works, including tableware, dinnerware, flatware, and furniture.
Huh's proprietary lacquering method allows him to manifest vivid and vibrant colors in various mediums including wood, copper, and ceramic. I was told that different batches sometimes result in slight color variations as he painstakingly hand paints them.
These textured mugs highlight the vibrant lacquered colors, and you will be amazed at how lightweight yet durable they are.
These small bowls are ideal for serving Korean side dishes, single-serving fruits, or snacks.
I'm hesitant to introduce vibrant colors as they clash sometimes and end up looking tacky. It wasn't the case with Huh Myoung Wook's items.
This elevated serving dish is so unique. Painted in the Royal Pink finish, the dish features a flat surface for food and a pedestal for the ultimately elegant food presentation.
The flat top is sharp and beautifully cut.
One of the interesting features of Huh's ottchil tableware is its ability to mix and match. You can introduce different colors and materials in a table setting harmoniously.
And look! A dedicated leather holder for trays.
It would've been a shame to leave the store without anything, and I'm beyond excited for this purchase.
I got a small ottchil multi-purpose storage box. It is food-safe; however, I will be using it as a decorative object.
There were 3 colors - beige, blue, and mustard yellow. The sales associate told me Huh releases different colors and sizes every now and then. I would've loved a pink one. Among the three, the blue one stood out the most.
The storage box has a matching lid, and it shuts tightly although not airtight.
The textured surface is highlighted by the vivid blue, and the dark interior creates a nice, stark contrast.
I intend to store miscellaneous items that I use on a daily basis such as a remote control or keys.
So artistic and unique!
If you own multiple boxes, you can swap out the lids to create a more colorful and visual contrast.
Stacked together, a set of storage boxes are both functional and aesthetic.
All of Huh's ottchil pieces need to be hand washed due to the nature of the material and lacquering method.
As I was leaving the store, I found these one-of-a-kind barware.
These cups were released recently. They are traditional with a modern twist, thanks to the brightly colored and lacquered stems. They are on my next wishlist!
