Anyone who’s been to my house knows my love for baskets. When using baskets, my clutter magically disappears, but I can still reach the bin easily and find whatever I’m looking for. They also make great decorative pieces to fill in large, empty spaces like under console tables or built-in shelves and provide additional storage.
Pottery Barn is my go-to store for baskets, and I’ve been getting their “Savannah” baskets for years. Since each piece is pricier than bargain store baskets, I collected them slowly over the years. This actually helped because all the baskets from Pottery Barn are being used. Another tip for organizing with baskets is to get only the baskets you know you’ll use. Having multiple ill-fitting baskets only add to the clutter.
I bought a few Savannah Utility Baskets to put on the built-in shelves in our study area by the entryway. The space has dark wood wall paneling, so I mainly used lighter-colored accents like white and beige to decorate. The Savannah baskets are lighter than baskets I’ve seen from other stores, and that’s exactly what I’ve been looking for.
Each basket has a solid construction and is weaved tightly. At the time of purchase, the Savannah Utility Baskets came in 2 sizes – medium and large. Unfortunately, the medium baskets are all sold out as of now. The Savannah collection offers baskets in various styles and sizes. The “Utility” was one of the offerings from the Savannah collection. There are under-bed, lidded, laundry baskets at the store.
The ones on our built-in shelves are all medium-sized baskets. Our shelves were too shallow for the large baskets (standard bookshelf depth), and since I intended to display them as mainly decorative pieces, the medium baskets turned out just fine. I do like the large baskets for functionality since they hold larger, bulkier items like throw pillows, blankets, or towels.
Gradually, these bins will collect this-and-that items that are floating around the house. Or some granola bars that I like to grab on my way out.
