There is a plethora of cleansing oils in the market, and hands down Shu Uemura makes the best. Shu Uemura is a Japanese premium cosmetic brand that no longer has a physical location in the US; however, the online store offers the full line of cleansing oils and most makeup and skincare products.

Depending on your skin type and concerns, Shu Uemura recommends different cleansing oil targeting them. They all have the notable cleansing ability (removes all makeup, even waterproof mascara), are gentle on the skin, and do not require a secondary cleanser.

Here’s a list of Shu Uemura’s cleansing oils and miscellaneous cleansing products:

If you’re looking for an all-around cleansing oil, you won’t be disappointed with the Ultime8 sublime cleansing oil.

The oil is neither too light nor heavy, making it suitable to use year-round. Cleansing oils like Blanc:chroma or Porefinist2 have a much lighter consistency. They don’t cling onto your palm and drip right away. On the other hand, oils like Anti/oxi+pollutant have heavier consistency, targeting dull complexions. Shu Uemura describes the Ultime8 oil has a “cashmere-like texture” thanks to 8 precious oils.

In order to fully take advantage of its cleansing ability, Shu Uemura includes a cleansing tip. It is imperative that you emulsify the oil before rinsing it off because all the cleansing action occurs during the emulsification process. All that long wear foundation, waterproof mascara and stubborn lip stains melt away and leave your skin feeling cleansed and nourished.

It is much better value to buy a larger bottle ($95 for 450ml) than the regular one ($45 for 150ml). Although it is a lot of money for a bottle of cleansing oil, it is comparable to other leading cleansing oil brands like Mac or Bobbi Brown.

Mac Cleanse Off Oil is $32 for 150ml (that is 0.21¢/ml), and Bobbi Brown’s Soothing Cleansing Oil is $48 for 200ml (0.24¢/ml). So, since the Ultime8 sublime’s larger bottle is $95 for 450ml, the cost comes down to 0.21¢/ml, cheaper than Bobbi Brown and comparable to Mac.

Also note the Ultime8 sublime is the most expensive oil among Shu Uemura cleansing oils, so other options are probably cheaper than both Bobbi Brown and Mac.

I was so surprised that my skin immediately felt softer after 1 wash. I didn’t need to use a secondary cleanser because my skin felt clean. It didn’t leave any oily residue many cleansing oils leave behind. It didn’t dry my skin out either. My face was visibly dewy, and my skin felt comfortable without any irritation. The Ultime8 sublime oil is by far superior to other competitors.
