If you're making a list of places to go in Southern California, Solvang should be on the list. It's a small, quaint Danish town where California wine cellars mix with European bakeries and shops. Known for Danish-style architecture and bountiful wineries, thanks to the mild weather in Santa Ynez Valley, it is a place worth visiting.

Solvang had plenty of parking spaces on both the street and the lot.

What a beautiful Danish village in California!

Solvang was a very walkable town with beautiful scenery and greenery all around.

We stopped and appreciated how vibrant these flowers were.

Solvang had so many Danish bakeries. We could spot an authentic Danish bakery on every corner, and the entire village smelled of freshly baked pastries.

We were told that most bakeries have similar menus, and their pastries and baked goods have comparable quality, but we went into one that had the most people - Danish Mill Bakery. There must be a reason that people are lining up to this particular bakery, right?

Danish Mill Bakery has been in business for more than 60 years, and it has its signature cookies, Marzipan, cakes, and breads, made the Danish way.

Danish Mills Bakery's Kransekage, a traditional Danish wreath cake, was phenomenal. Made with almonds, sugar, and egg whites, Kransekage is great with a cup of coffee.

And we saw almost every person leaving the store with these cookies. This giant bucket contains 5 dozen of the Danish Mill Bakery butter cookies.

Danish Mill Bakery ships anywhere in the United States.

We decided to grab a bite before we left this magically picturesque town. We ate at Peasants FEAST, and it had the best hot-fried chicken burger we've had!

Peasants FEAST is a restaurant with a relaxed vibe serving hearty meals using seasonal and farm-driven ingredients. We ordered its bestselling Solvang Hot Chicken Sandwich and Local Halibut Tacos, and both were amazing!

The Solvang Hot Chicken sandwich has buttermilk fried chicken, pickled red onion, fresh herbs, shredded cabbage, and Nannie's ranch on the Baker's Table sesame brioche bun. The server was warning us that the sandwich was going to be spicy, but we didn't feel the kick. Regardless, the fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and full of flavors.

The Solvang Hot Chicken comes with a choice of sides. You can choose from crispy potatoes, side salad, a cup of soup, cheesy polenta, Caesar salad, baby gem salad, Brussels salad, and mac & cheese. The server confidently recommended the crispy potatoes, and boy, are we glad we went with her recommendation. These were cooked and seasoned so perfectly that we were fighting for the last piece.

The Local Halibut Tacos were also tasty and filling. You get 2 tacos per order. Local halibut, shredded cabbage, roasted salsa verde, ninja radish, onion, and cilantro are served on hand-pressed corn tortillas with a side of Lompoc Valley's pinquito beans. The halibut was grilled to perfection as well, and we loved the soft tortillas. If you visit Solvang, Peasants FEAST is a must-try diner.

As we were heading to our car, we spotted a tour bus or a carriage driven by the two handsome horses.

They were so friendly and well-behaved!

Until next time!
