As huge fans of Ancient Greek mythology and philosophy, we couldn't pass on the Getty Villa. Located in Pacific Palisades near Malibu, CA, the Getty Villa is smaller than the Getty Center in Los Angeles but is full of culture and art. Unlike the Getty Center which is more of a general museum, the Getty Villa focuses on a more specific historical period. We love them both, but you get to enjoy a beautiful ocean view at the Getty Villa as an added bonus!

As soon as you step inside the Getty Villa, you're greeted by marvelous architecture.

The Getty Villa's exhibition focuses on the art and culture of ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria, so if you're into Greek, Roman, and Etruscan antiquities dating back 3000 years ago, you must come and visit.

The Getty Villa also has a beautiful garden, and it's such a treat to walk in the garden on a nice, sunny day.

We took a nice, long stroll in this lovely garden - such lush greenery and garden sculptures were spectacular! The trip really made our day.

We did not have any intention of buying anything when we stopped by the souvenir shop as we found many gift shops in the museums tacky and overpriced. But we were pleasantly surprised with their offerings!

We spotted these Greek amphora vases at the store and really liked them. Aren't they cool?

An amphora vase is a jar with handles on both sides. It was used as an all-purpose container for holding various ingredients like honey, milk, oil, wine, water, or dry goods.

Although the original amphora vase was used to hold all kinds of food items, this reproduction is not food-safe and is for decorative purposes only. It is handcrafted in Athens, Greece with terracotta clay.

Each vase depicts a story - like a journey of Herakles. The artist meticulously reproduces Corinthian, Geometric, Red, or Black Figure designs on each piece by hand.

We got the Greek Vase Art of the Storyteller by John H. Oakley, so we could learn more about the ornate nature of these Greek vases.

The book offers an introduction to ancient Greek vases - they were more than mere containers. They served as a medium for storytelling and bearers of life lessons and meanings.

We thought these small Greek vessels would make great gifts. A two-handled bowl with a footed stem is called a kylix, and it was used for drinking wine.

The Getty Villa was full of wonders and incredible exhibitions. It is an extraordinary place to visit.

Until next time!
