Garment care can be tricky if you want to prolong the life of delicate fabrics. Even cotton t-shirts or towels that are relatively easy to care for pose a challenge when they’re stained. Instead of using bleach which is both harmful to the environment and the garment, I use a stain brush.

If I use harsher detergent or hotter water to get a particularly soiled stain out, it affects the whole piece, so I pre-treat the stain with a brush from Laundress New York. You can still use an old toothbrush to pre-treat, but I find the stain brush to work better on tougher stains.

I dab a little bit of detergent directly on the stain and rigorously rub the brush against the fabric. If it is delicate fabrics like knit or silk, I rub it much gently, of course. The bristles are strong and resilient. They are very dense and clean much better than regular toothbrushes.

The brush is compact and lightweight. I really like the wooden handle and body as it provides enough friction for my hand to hold onto the brush without slipping.

The resilient bristles won’t wear out easily, and for the various stain-removing tasks the brush performs, $10 is pretty reasonable, in my humble opinion.
