Baby Closet Organization Tips and Must-Have Products

How do you organize your kid's closet? In this post, I'll share some of the organizational tips and products I use to keep my son's closet organized. I used to fold my baby's clothes and store them in a chest of drawers. But as he got older and had more clothes, his clothes could use better organization. Onesies are great folded, and you definitely need a drawer for storing miscellaneous items like socks, hats, and burp clothes; however, you will soon learn that some clothes are much better hung.

But because baby clothes were so tiny, I needed smaller hangers. Here I faced a conundrum. If I bought infant-sized hangers, they would fit the current clothes perfectly but would shortly become unusable. Do I buy cheap plastic ones and replace them as he grows? That didn't sound too environmentally conscious, so I opted for higher-quality wooden hangers that are petite but large enough to accommodate larger kid clothes. I made sure to get hangers with clippers, so the smaller clothes could be clipped instead of hung to prevent the garments from being stretched.

This was the theme and vibe I was going for when I was shopping for the hangers. I found an online hanger wholesaler that supplies to retailers and clothing boutiques. These wooden hangers for kids are what many high-end baby and kid clothing boutiques use. I find them high-quality and durable.

There are multiple types of hangers in different sizes. Depending on your kid's room decor, you can opt for satin, bead, wooden, or plastic hangers. They even have non-slip, slim hangers!

I bought the Natural Wooden Baby Hangers with Clips.

The natural wood finish complements my nursery, and his closet looks so cohesive and organized. The hanger measures 10" in width, so they can comfortably accommodate sizes from newborn to two years.

The hanger has a gentle curve to help preserve the shape of the garment.

The hanger also features notches near the end of the arms to hold hanging straps, if your garment has some. The clips are ideal for matching trousers or skirts.

This is a 3-6 month-sized pajama as a reference. The hanger is still too wide so pokes the sides of the garment.

I'm okay with that for pajamas and other daily clothes, but if I need to hang any special occasion garment, I like to use the clips. Hanging clothes like this ensures that the garments don't stretch and retain their shapes.

I can't recommend these wooden hangers enough for storing small children's clothes.

Another clever organization tip for a space-efficient closet is to utilize the space under the garment rack. Unless you made the closet custom-built for your kid, the garment rack would be installed taller than your kid's clothes because it was installed to accommodate adult-sized clothes. I like to use storage baskets to maximize that dead space below.

The Hideaway version is offered in 2 sizes - the Small and Large.

The use cases for these storage boxes are endless. Although they are designed as under-bed (or crib) storage baskets, they offer great storage solutions for any space that is wide but short in height. These storage baskets were perfect for my baby's closet below the clothes rack.

The pompoms are so fun! They come in various colors, not just natural ivory like the one I got, so you can introduce as many colors as you want.

The small Hideaway Pom Pom Storage Basket fits the extra hangers I bought.

In the other basket, I stored all the clothes that got too small for him. It's unbelievable how fast babies grow! Tears.

Everything's hung, folded, and put away. Ah - so therapeutic.

This way, the closet stays organized no matter who's dressing up the baby - dad, grandparents, or a nanny ... - making your life a little easier.
