BetterBrand The Better Bagel
I must’ve tried at least a dozen Keto or low-carb bagels in the market, searching for a sustainable, long-term alternative to traditional bagels. And I admit, many of them tasted like cardboard boxes. I’m not on any drastic and strict diet, but I do try to watch my daily carb intake. Since a bagel contains a whopping 75g of carbs per serving, I needed a better alternative.
This is a nutrition label from OMG Bakery’s Plain Bagel.
My top contender for a low-carb bagel is the Better Bagel from BetterBrand. I stumbled upon this company through a targeted ad from Instagram and gave it a try. But I didn’t have high expectations, since most of the “keto” bagels had sucked.
The Better Bagels are simply better than regular bagels.
They contain less carb and more protein.
A bagel (180 calories) from BetterBrand contains 5g net carbs, 26g protein, and 1g sugar.
That’s impressive – the protein content is higher than typical protein powder while keeping the carb at bay.
I ordered 16 Classic bagels for $55. BetterBrand also offers “The Everything” flavor for those who are seeking a heartier and crunchier taste.
The bagels are packaged in resealable pouches, and each bag contains 4 bagels.
They advise you to freeze them immediately if you aren’t planning on eating the bagels right away.
I decided to slice the bagels, so I could put them in the toaster straight from the freezer.
Verdict? They are very good-tasting bagel alternatives.
The texture was like regular bagels – when toasted, it was chewy on the inside and crisp on the outside.
Obviously, they do not taste the same as regular bagels, but they come very close. With cream cheese or other toppings, I didn’t feel like I was missing out on the flavor.
For the nutritional content this good, the minor taste difference is minimal, in my opinion.
I signed up for a monthly subscription because I know I go through at least 16 bagels a month, ha!
I sliced and individually packaged all 16 bagels and put them in the freezer. I take one out right before I go to bed, let it thaw overnight, and voila! There’s my breakfast. So filling and delicious without all that carb guilt.
