Finding a quality dish drying rack has proven to be more difficult than I thought. There are times when I need to hand wash various kitchen items ranging from delicate china to cast iron pots, and for those odd hand washing jobs, I needed a reliable dish drying rack. I was disappointed to learn that a lot of racks are made of plastic or contain some plastic parts. A lot of them seem to have drainage issues, as well. Then I came across La Base's Dish Rack, and I fell in love with it.
La Base is a Japanese premium brand that specializes in stainless steel dish racks. Every single part of this rack is made of stainless steel to minimize rust and mildew, and the sleek design is right on point.
I frantically searched online for a retailer that ships to the United States, but at the time of my purchase, there was none but one eBay seller, shipping directly from Japan. I had to pay a lot of premium to get it shipped to the United States, but it was worth it for me considering how much I love it and how I use it every single day. There are some Amazon sellers these days, though, and the prices have gotten much more reasonable. The dish rack comes in 3 dust bags.
The rack consists of 3 parts, so each part gets a dust bag to prevent scratches during transit.
The Dish Drainer has 3 components - a large dish rack, a narrower rack for utensils, and a drip tray.

Drip tray
Once put together, this is what the dish drainer looks like.
All the edges are smoothed out, so no sharp edges. I particularly enjoyed this feature because pointy stainless steel edges are not only dangerous but also prone to rusting.
Even the drip tray is thoughtfully designed.
The tray is slanted and angled strategically so that any water that drips down from the drainer drains to the sink, instead of pooling in one place. A lot of dish drainers in the United States contain a flat tray to catch the water, and because it just sits there, you'll need to manually empty it.
What a brilliant design, indeed!
Make sure to check the La Base engraving on the back of the drip tray. Apparently, there are a lot of counterfeit La Base dish drainers in Japan.
La Base's Dish Drainer fits perfectly next to my sink. The depth of the drainer is actually exactly the same is the depth of my sink, giving it a more custom look.
The attention to detail is impeccable!
Next to my stainless steel sink and brushed nickel kitchen hardware, the dish drainer blends in seamlessly and harmoniously. This is an impressive feat since most drainers are eyesores. I used to frantically hide the dish rack underneath the sink every time guests were coming, but I no longer do that!
And from time to time, you can just put the drainer and drip tray in the dishwasher to clean. They come out squeaky clean!
This drainer is impeccable, and I can't find a single flaw.
All my delicate bowls and dishes dry securely and efficiently on the rack.
The narrow slats prevent even the thinnest dishes from slipping, and they allow me to stack dishes with ease.
I hand wash wooden chopsticks and spoons, and the utensil drainer is perfect for the job.
This drainer needs to be mainstream in the United States. So functional. And given how durable the rack is, I won't ever have to buy a new one!
