I've wanted an ice maker forever, and when we were redoing our butler's kitchen, we finally decided to add one. Originally, I was considering getting an under-counter ice maker from SubZero; however, the appeal of nugget ice persuaded me to get Scotsman's Brilliance Nugget Ice Machine (Model SCN60).
I admit, I haven't heard of the brand Scotsman before; however, it is a very popular and renowned ice maker brand. It is a preferred brand of choice among commercial restaurants, kitchens, and fast food chains.
Nugget ice, also called Sonic ice, is layers of flaked ice frozen together. The special process of freezing ice creates air pockets, resulting in chewy and crunchy ice.
I guess the vent underneath the cabinetry sort of gave it away, but it has the perfectly seamless and flushed look of a custom built-in.
This small yet mighty ice machine produces up to 80 lbs of nugget ice in 24 hours.
You can either get a stainless steel door or get a panel-ready model to match the surrounding cabinetry.
As you can see, I opted for the panel-ready machine and had my carpenter build a matching cabinet door. So flushed and seamless!
The hinge is hidden, so it really doesn't look like an appliance.
The ice bin automatically lights up whenever I open the door.
Approved for both indoor and outdoor use, this ice machine comes with a scoop, too.
The control panel is located at the front of the machine. It will be hidden once you close the door so that it won't interfere with the aesthetics of the cabinetry.
Operating the machine is simple and intuitive. It's an ice maker, so it shouldn't come with a big manual!
