I have been a long-time user of Giorgio Armani foundations, dating back to 2012. I’ve tried Lasting Silk (that is now sadly discontinued), Maestro Fusion, Designer Lift, and Luminous Silk foundations. Each product had a different finish - matte, satin, and dewy – and coverage – light, medium, and full. I try other foundations – Born This Way (Too Faced), Double Wear (Estee Lauder), and All Hours Longwear Natural Matte Foundation (YSL) – from time to time; however, I always come back to the Luminous Silk, and it will always be my vanity staple.

I have fair skin with a yellow/golden undertone. A lot of SAs assume I have a pink undertone because my face gets red easily. I got tested at Sephora (Color iQ) and learned that I have a much warmer undertone. My color iQ number was 2Y06, and my match was 3.5 which was slightly lighter than the shade I was using at the time, #4.

What I’ve noticed with the GA foundations is that they are on a yellower end than other brands. Yellower shades tend to make skin look more natural (think of Bobbi Brown foundations – they are also very yellow). So they will be warmer than your natural skin tone. In fact, I thought both #3.5 and #4 were too yellow and dark for my liking.

I loved it so much, I got the mini size for traveling. Because the foundation bottle’s in glass, the weight adds up when I’m packing. The mini size is 0.6 oz, a generous size for long trips or first-time trying out.
The mini size also comes with the pump, thank you! I was never a fan of foundations that don’t have pumps. I think it’s a marketing gimmick to separately sell pump dispensers. I liked how GA doesn’t cheap out even on mini sizes.

I tested #3, and it was a perfect match.

Shake before use.
The foundation feels comfortable, and it didn’t make me itchy or break out. GA claims the coverage is medium, and I agree. You can build the coverage so it covers most of the redness, under-eye circles, and blemishes. For more visible imperfections, I opt for concealers. I have much redness on my cheeks, and the foundation was exceptional at neutralizing redness.

As you can tell, #4 is noticeably darker and yellower.

The texture is pretty fluid. It isn’t as sticky as a cream foundation, but not overly runny. It blends in so smoothly. It doesn’t highlight visible pores, which is a huge plus for me. I do use primer when I need a more polished, done look; however, when I applied the foundation without primer, I didn’t get the impression that my pores and uneven texture were visible.

Overall, no wonder it’s GA’s bestselling foundation. Luminous Silk Foundation is a well-rounded foundation that is suitable for most skin types and concerns. It is much more “breathable” than other foundations, which is a huge reason for me.
