I’ve been looking high and low for a portable lamp that I can carry whenever I’m going for a walk at night. I was never a fan of flashlights, but the need for a portable light source was real due to safety concerns. I must’ve spent days looking at websites that sold portable lamps, thanks to the quarantine.

And I was so excited when I found this Carrie LED Lamp from Menu.

Menu is a Scandinavian design company known for its functional yet design-forward items. Menu offers various home styling products, as well as furniture and lighting. I fell in love with Menu’s minimalistic designs with their focus on functionality.

The lamp comes in 6 colors – brushed brass, bronzed brass, black, white, burned red, and olive. I debated forever between brass and black because my home has mostly gold or black pieces. Personally, I thought white was the least appealing color because it looked kinda cheap, reminding me of Ikea.

The lamp consists of a glass sphere and powder-coated steel or brass-plated steel frame. The frame functions as a carry handle or a mounting bracket (I’ll explain this part in a bit).

It arrives in a minimalistic box without much fancy adornment or packaging. It comes with ample padding, so you won't have to worry about damage during transit.

Inside, the box contains an information leaflet, a USB charger, and a lamp.

As you can see, I ultimately bought the black lamp, and it has a powdery, matte black finish.

The lamp shade is uniform in color – opaque, frosted white.

It glows oh so beautifully at night, and I carry this everywhere I go. I take it with me when I’m walking my dog, and it’s so easy to carry because the handle is wide and high. I can even fit my arm through the handle to free both of my hands when I’m picking up dog poo. You can also leave it on the ground, thanks to its flat bottom.

Each full charge gives you 10 hours of usage time. I love how it’s rechargeable via a USB charger, not batteries because nobody keeps an unlimited supply of batteries, and I always forget to buy spare. And it’s much more environmentally friendly to charge it up over and over again, instead of replacing batteries.

The lamp is quite lightweight, weighing only 0.98kg, and it doesn’t feel cumbersome at all when I’m walking.

I’ve been also using the lamp in my backyard. It’s become a must-have item every time I step outside.

It provides such a beautiful and ambient glow for any occasion. Much brighter and safer than candlelight, for sure.

The Carrie Lamp is powered by a 3.2W LED board, and it supports 3 brightness settings. I can control the brightness by pressing the power button.

The setting changes every time I press the button.

On the other side of the power button rests a USB charging port. It lights up in red when the lamp is connected to the power.

The handle moves seamlessly, and you can lay it flat like in this photo. And you can hang the lamp using the handle as a mounting bracket if you have a secure hook on a wall. I’ve seen people hang their Carrie Lamp on a wall by their entryway, so it is within their reach every time they step out. What a versatile and clever design.

I’m thinking about getting another one in brass color because my husband wants it too.
