I digressed a bit, but the Resting Animals were released in 2018, so they are considered brand-new by the Mid-Century modern standard! The collection was designed by Front, a Stockholm-based design studio founded by Sofia Lagerkvist and Anna Lindgren.
Inspired by people's close connection between humans and animals, Front created a set of slumbering animal figures whose poses exude tranquility and serenity.
The largest among the Resting Animal Collection is the Resting Bear, a knit-covered stool that can also be used as a backrest or an ottoman.
This lazy slumbering bear is so inviting and makes me want to take a nap next to it. It was my favorite design among the Resting Animals; however, the size was substantial, so I had to pass on it. I was looking for decorative objects that I could display on a floating shelf.
The bear is huge!
The Resting Bear can be ordered in 3 fabric finishes - mauve, turquoise, and blue.
The other two animals from the collection - Resting Cat and Bird - are much smaller and made of ceramic.
If you're a cat person, this figurine will be your instant favorite! The figure represents a sleeping cat's posture beautifully, all curled up and snuggling.
I particularly liked the Resting Birds - available in 2 sizes and 3 finishes, they are so cute when paired together.
I highly suggest purchasing them as a pair - they look much more balanced when they're together.
You can either pair them in the same finish or mix and match. I got the sand and white Resting Birds, and they are amazing!
