Air circulators are great for circulating indoor air so that you can be as energy efficient as possible. I open windows daily to let fresh air in and stale indoor air out. It is important to circulate indoor air even if you keep the house clean because various house activities like cooking and breathing polluted air. I wasn’t sure if I needed to invest in an air circulator when I had a perfectly functioning fan. I did a lot of research before deciding to invest in a Vornado air circulator. You see, air circulators are generally more expensive than regular fans (disregarding premium fans like Dyson, of course). And there are so many Vornado models, which made choosing more difficult. I ultimately went with the Vornado V-Fan Sr. Vintage Air Circulator Fan in Chrome, and I couldn’t be happier.

I was always drawn to appliances with vintage designs like Smeg. I fell in love with the V-Fan’s retro design and colors – Green, Cream, and Chrome.

The circulator reminds me of an air plane engine, and it’s actually really pretty. It doesn’t mess with the interior and is just beautiful to look at. It’s our functional home accent. And even if it has a look of an old fan, the quality is not at all lacking. It’s powered by Vornado’s technology to maximize air circulation and overcome aerodynamic challenges.

Vornado’s newer models like Energy Smart Air Circulators feature convenient remote control and 100-speed controls. To me, having 100-speed settings wasn’t a huge plus. I knew exactly how I was going to use the circulator, and I really only needed 3 settings – gentle breeze, noticeable blow, and turbo. And the V-Fan offered just that – 3-speed settings (low, medium, and high). But of course, that’s a personal preference, and some might prefer a more precise control. Then definitely give the Energy Smart circulators a look.

I got the largest V-Fan model (V-Fan Sr.), and it can cover up to 300 sq ft. of space. When it’s on, it gives out a good-quality of air, and the cooling effect is almost immediate.

It is constructed of solid metal, except for the blades (plastic). And the all-chrome body is amazingly handsome and shiny. I don’t hide it when I’m having guests over. It proudly gets a spot in our living room!

Naturally, hot air rises, so my 2nd floor is baking in summer. My husband turns the AC on to the max upstairs and complains about the rooms not being cool enough, where our ground floor living room is freezing. I strategically placed the circulator by the stairs, and it’s like magic – cooler air gets shot up, and it feels much cooler upstairs now. And Vornado’s circulators rigorously spin air in a spiral vortex motion, resulting in faster and more powerful circulation.

The air circulator is particularly useful when the weather isn’t hot enough for AC but kind of uncomfortable. I’m talking around 80 degrees. I turn on the air circulator, and the house feels a lot cooler and breathable, therefore helping us to save more energy. The blow feels a lot more natural than regular fans, and you don’t need to be facing the blow to feel it, which is the best part, in my opinion. Most fans dry my eyes out; however, the V-Fan circulates the whole air and cools the surrounding area.

You can find retro details on every aspect of the circulator - the packaging and instruction manuals are no exception!

After using my circulator for a few months now, I sincerely believe that air circulators are better than fans in so many ways. They can be used all year long, are great for high-ceiling homes, and contribute to lower electricity bills when used with the AC or heater.

I’m a huge proponent of air circulators, and if you’re wondering if they are worth buying at all, I’d say get one! You are going to be a lot more comfortable and will fall in love with it. Chances are, you’ll be ordering another.
